The New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project - Camille Chidiac
The New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project was founded in 2003 in New York City in order to help treat September-11 rescue and emergency workers for toxins inhaled from the smoke and ash created after the World Trade Center (WTC) buildings collapsed. The attack on the WTC towers and the collapse that followed created a massive amount of toxic exposure for everyone in the vicinity. The airborne dust included pulverized concrete, steel, asbestos, carpeting, office equipment and other matter.
It took Congress a decade to provide partial medical funding for the workers and this organization has been crucial in providing much-needed support to those affected. I’m a proud supporter of this organization and ask that you consider supporting the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project as well.
Please visit the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project website to learn more and to support the rescue workers of 9-11.

The CIA Officers Memorial Foundation - Camille Chidiac
The CIA Officers Memorial Foundation was created by a group of Americans who found it their responsibility to aid and assist the survivors and dependents of CIA officers lost in the line of duty. These survivors deserve the support of every American because of the high price they have paid to ensure this nation’s freedom and security. In 2001 Richard Helms a former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and a few former officers decided to honor Mike Spann the first American killed in the covert war in response to September 11th, as well as the 78 fellow CIA officers killed throughout the Agency’s history. The mission of the Foundation is to provide educational support for the children of fallen CIA officers, their spouses and the loved ones of CIA officers deceased in the line of duty as a result of accident, illness or other causes.
Please visit the CIA Officers Memorial Foundation website to learn more and to support the foundation in its valiant mission.

The United Warrior Survivor Foundation - Camille Chidiac
I support the United Warrior Survivor Foundation (UWSF), the only organization that is exclusively dedicated to helping the spouses of fallen Special Operations personnel of the Navy, Army, Air Force and Marine Corps. Special operations personnel often perform the most dangerous missions and receive very little public praise due to the secrecy of their deployment. These elite units of our armed forces are the vanguard of our counter terrorism efforts around the world. In order to successfully perform their duties Special Operations personnel often have to keep their locations and missions, completely secret from their spouses and families. This necessity creates an even more difficult and tense situation at home for the spouse of a Special Operations member, who often has no idea where their loved one is located .
The UWSF was created to deal with the needs of the families of fallen Special Operations personnel. Currently the UWSF supports more than 150 widows and their families by offering various financial, spiritual and grief counseling services. An example of the great work this organization provides is the Bi-annual Survivor Conference that allow for widows to come together, create a lasting bond of friendship and help one another through the difficult grieving process. Furthermore, the UWSF offers education grants, helping spouses reach their goal of attending college or helping them learn new skills through career re-training courses.
Clearly this is a group I’m passionate about and support. If you would like to contribute, please visit the United Warrior Survivor Foundation website.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees- Camille Chidiac
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) leads and co-ordinates international relief to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees and in more than five decades, the agency has helped people restart their lives. Today, a staff of around 6,650 people in more than 110 countries continues to help 34.4 million people. Refugee Relief Fundraiser Hosted in Nations Capital - Camille Chidiac
On June 22nd, philanthropists and concerned citizens from around the country met in Washington, DC to raise much-needed funds for refugee relief. Philanthropist and former refugee Hamed Wardak made sure the event did not disappoint. DJ Julian Ingrosso of Miami’s Mynt Lounge and Jason Vernau, Resident DJ at Set, Shore Club, and Fontainebleau were flown in specially, and the W Hotel’s rooftop, POV, was appropriately transformed into a spectacularly sheek Miami-style night club for the occasion.
Notable guests included UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones, Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, International Center on Non-Violent Conflict Chairman Peter Ackerman, philanthropist and co-owner of Leonie Industries Camille Chidiac, Representative of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to the United States Qubad Talabany, and DC socialite Katherine Kennedy.
All proceeds collected were donated to the United Nations Refugee Agency.

The UN Refugee Agency’s Blue Key Campaign - Camille Chidiac
The reasons I choose to support the the UN Refugee Agency’s Blue Key campaign are not complicated. Refugees need basic necessities that many of us who are more fortunate take for granted; namely water, food and shelter. Some refugees spend years, even decades, in displacement camps. So many are traumatized by torture, sexual assault and aggression. The Blue Key campaign helps provide basic services to those in refugee camps who most desperately need them; a school, a health clinic, shelter from the elements for their family. Today, more than 6,000 UNHCR staffers help provide much needed, shelter and care in camps around the world. But much work is still needed–there are 43 million refugees worldwide and more needs to be done to help them escape their plight. In December 2011, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) will commemorate 60 years of working to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees and internally displaced people. The goal is for 6,000 U.S. residents – thoughtful, caring people like you — to get a Blue Key. By doing so, you’ll tell the millions of refugees worldwide that they’re not invisible, and our staff that their live-saving work does not go unnoticed.
I urge you to support this cause as well.

The Sion Milosky Memorial Foundation - Camille Chidiac
On March 21st, 2011 tragedy struck the surfing world. Sion Milosky passed away after a fall at Maverick’s break, a famous surfing location in Hawaii. The father of two had recently gained notoriety not only in the surfing world, but throughout the sporting community, for catching the biggest wave ever recorded in a surfing competition. Milosky was a pioneer of big wave surfing, often pushing the boundaries of the sport and pushing himself to new achieve bigger and bigger goals. Away from surfing, Milosky was a dedicated father to two young girls; he often described his passions to be his family first and chasing massive waves second. Milosky was a man dedicated to his sport and his family. His contributions to his sport and to the world will not be forgotten and he will be greatly missed.
I encourage you to donate to the fund as all proceeds go directly to benefit Sion’s wife and children.

The Grameen Foundation - Camille Chidiac
Grameen Foundation provides microfinance institutions (MFIs) in poor communities with access to the capital they need to make micro-loans to those working to develop or expand a small business. In many of the poorest regions in the world, micro-business creation is the only way for families to escape poverty and build a better future for their children. Besides being a brilliant and well-executed idea, I’m all about empowering entrepreneurial people, and this sort of investment just plain makes sense.

The Baby Buggy - Camille Chidiac
Baby Buggy is a nonprofit that provides in-need families with everything from cribs and strollers to clothing and bottles. Similar to other charities I support, Baby Buggy focuses on providing essentials that many more privileged people take for granted. They also add in a twist: “incentive based donations”. In order to receive many of their products, mothers must also agree to social service assistance, such as job training, financial literacy classes, and parenting support & education. For example: A mom receives stroller after demonstrating that he has opened an education savings account for her child. A father receives a crib after participating in a 16-week fatherhood program.
